Saving
lives
At the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO), saving lives is driven by a commitment to research, innovation and compassionate care that reaches far beyond the Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem and Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus campuses in Jerusalem. In 2025, HMO strengthened its reputation as a global leader in medicine.
Watch Michal’s Lifechanging story
In 2025, Hadassah’s hospitals remained a place of healing and hope for victims of terror and trauma, thanks to your support.

Throughout 2025, we once again witnessed the extraordinary resilience and impact of our institution in the face of war. During the Israel-Iran war in June 2025, our teams acted swiftly to ensure continuity of care, rapidly transitioning critical departments into fortified underground facilities, marking the first full-scale use of our underground hospital at the Gandel Rehabilitation Center and significantly expanding our protected capacity.
At the same time, we continued to look beyond immediate needs, advancing medical excellence in Israel and around the world. Alongside frontline care, we sustained our momentum in groundbreaking research and innovation, from genomic medicine to proton therapy and AI. The Hadassah Medical Organization achieved exceptional recognition in the 2025 Nature Index, one of the world’s most respected research rankings, placing #1 among Israeli hospitals, the only Israeli hospital listed among the top 200 worldwide, and notably, the only hospital in the Middle East to be included in the top 200.
At the Gandel Rehabilitation Center, we continued to support wounded soldiers through long and complex recoveries, addressing both physical injuries and emotional healing, transforming lives every day.
What defines Hadassah hospitals is our people. Our physicians, nurses, researchers and staff — reflecting the diversity of Israeli society and working together despite the challenges beyond our walls — demonstrate unwavering courage, compassion and professionalism every day. This is Hadassah lifechanging in action.
None of this would be possible without you. We are deeply grateful to our supporters at Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, whose partnership empowers us to save lives, inspire innovation and shape the future of medicine.

Medical Breakthroughs

Expert Breast Care
In 2025, the Hadassah Medical Organization was named Israel's #1 hospital for scientific output by the prestigious journal Nature. Newsweek again recognized Hadassah hospitals among the World's Best Hospitals, World's Best Specialized Hospitals for oncology and cardiology, and World's Best Smart Hospitals. Together, Hadassah hospitals and Hadasit, HMO's venture-building and innovation company, are advancing medicine through world-class research, innovation and compassionate, lifechanging care.
HMO Cancer Research Center Director Dr. Michal Lotem collaborated with researchers at the University of Cambridge to develop the world's first live tumor-immune ecosystem model, which replicates the complex interactions between cancer cells, immune cells and the tumor microenvironment, opening new possibilities for cancer research.
Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem's expanded Breast Health Center of Excellence opened in 2025, led by some of the foremost experts in Israel and beyond — including Dr. Tanir Allweis, head of the center and chair of the Breast Surgery Association, and Dr. Shani Paluch-Shimon, director of breast oncology at HMO. With a holistic approach, the center integrates all components of care and fosters daily collaboration between experts.
Advancing Medicine Today
From frontline emergency response to long-term trauma treatment, rehabilitation and recovery, Hadassah hospitals deliver uninterrupted, lifechanging care.

Organoids: A Teenager Thrives With Personalized Medicine
Yael*, 18, spent years searching for effective treatment for cystic fibrosis and related pancreatic and diabetic complications. By 14, she was struggling with a significant decline in lung function and weight loss. At HMO, Dr. Malena Cohen-Cymberknoh, director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center, used organoid technology to test treatments on miniature organ models grown from Yael's cells.
“Every patient responds differently to medications,” said Dr. Cohen-Cymberknoh. “Working together with organoid experts, we were able to identify the exact treatment for Yael. Within days, her coughing stopped and she was no longer insulin-dependent.”

The Most Advanced Rehabilitation Center in the Middle East
The Gandel Rehabilitation Center at Hadassah Mount Scopus “is the largest rehabilitation center in Israel, with every service that is needed for patients from all across Israel,” said Hadassah National President Carol Ann Schwartz at its formal inauguration in October 2025, where she was joined by Israel’s prime minister and president, as well as senior Hadassah leadership. Construction was fast-tracked after October 7, 2023, to address Jerusalem’s acute shortage of beds and provide wounded soldiers and civilians with comprehensive, advanced rehabilitation. By the inauguration, more than 2,000 patients had received lifechanging care at the center, designed to treat 10,000+ annually.

Building the Future of Medicine, Now
Every day, Hadassah hospitals turn "what if" into "what is" through clinical expertise, compassion and lifechanging research into complex and chronic diseases, including cancer, ALS and diabetes. In 2025, Hadassah teams successfully implanted a responsive neurostimulation device that stops epileptic seizures before they start — an Israeli first. The hospitals introduced mixed-reality glasses to optimize spine surgeries and utilized 3D-printed limbs. And HMO researchers presented at conferences around the world on topics ranging from new milestones in precision oncology to destroying cancer cells with proton waves.
Uncovering a Teen Suicide Risk Factor
With Israel facing rising cases of teen suicide and suicidal ideation following October 7, a 2025 study at the Herman Dana Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at HMO showed a link between teen suicide risk, early trauma and glucocorticoid levels. Published in Molecular Psychiatry and featured on Nature.com, the study examined adolescents treated at Hadassah hospitals, offering a scientific roadmap for earlier intervention and improved identification of at-risk youth.

An Israeli-First in Cardiac Care
In late May 2025, a Hadassah Ein Kerem medical team performed Israel’s first artificial heart transplant. During an intricate seven-hour surgery, the patient’s heart was removed and replaced with an artificial heart made of titanium, combined with biological animal tissues and advanced sensors. “This was a meticulously planned operation executed by a large, harmonized team working with incredible precision,” said Dr. Offer Amir, director of Hadassah's Heart Institute.
Crisis Response: In Israel & Around the World
During Iranian attacks, Hadassah staff activated emergency protocols, including moving newborn incubators to fortified underground areas at Hadassah Ein Kerem and using, for the first time, the underground emergency hospital at Hadassah Mount Scopus, created just two weeks after October 7. Hadassah medical teams responded globally in 2025. In Australia, teams provided expertise to Bondi Beach first responders and in Jamaica, pediatrics teams helped treat Hurricane Melissa survivors.
“Each of us is, in a way, a goodwill ambassador from Israel. It’s a great privilege to take part in such meaningful humanitarian work.” — Dr. Lea Sarna Cahan, Pediatric ER, Hadassah Ein Kerem
